Will Our High Schools Become Prisons?
I was at the Granite School Board meeting on September 20. In this meeting there were consultants telling the board the cost on putting metal detectors into all the high schools in Granite District. The cost would be nearly $1,000,000. Plus, a yearly maintenance fee. The cost aside do we really want our children to go through metal detectors everyday they enter into their school? We are not living in New York or Chicago! I get they are trying to solve a problem. However, this would only traumatize them. Just like the Covid nonsense! They made some good suggestions like cameras and securing the building. I agree with these.
If you have been to the airport or concert lately, you know it takes time to get through these. What would happen if your child had metal in their backpack? Do you want a TSA style agent searching their backpack? How far will the district take this in the name of security. Secure ALL schools, just like the elementary schools that are in the district.
