I posted a compelling video of parents voicing their concerns to the Granite School Board. It was heart wrenching to listen to these parents pleading with the board to make changes.
One parent, Monica Wilbur gave testimony of the failing of Cyprus High School. I spoke to her for over an hour. It makes me even more determined to get on the Granite School Board! Change needs to happen!
I thank Monica for this endorsement. I pledge I will do everything in my power, if elected, to make changes happen in Granite School District Precinct 7.
As a mom of children in Granite school district, a Salt Lake County delegate, and a public advocate of ethical education practices, I’ve been nothing short of amazed at how many of our elected board officials and district personnel are so unresponsive to the very real concerns of parents regarding the diminished quality of educational experiences available to their children.
Not a week goes by where I don’t hear from one or more parents who are seeing politicized education policies and programs at Granite schools negatively impact their children on a daily basis, and their voices are being ignored.
It’s because we need responsive, truth-informed leadership at the Granite School District that I’m endorsing Melinda Flint for Granite School Board Precinct 7.
If elected, Melinda Flint would be representing the Cyprus High School community. My children have attended Cyprus over the past 6 years and I’ve watched with growing alarm the neglect that Cyprus High administration has for the student body’s academic and learning needs. I’ve voiced these concerns to Kris Nguyen, the current board representative over Cyprus, and have yet to see her take any meaningful open action leading to improvement.
I’ve seen Melinda’s commitment to bringing thoughtful and crucial reform to her community on a few different levels, and appreciate her willingness to stand for strong academics and extracurricular opportunities in our children’s schools.
Fewer than a third of Granite School District students can read, write, or demonstrate math and science skills at grade level, and their performance in school has only gotten worse even as spending on education has skyrocketed. This is not acceptable for Granite parents, and we need real change on the Board, across the board.
Melinda Flint is the change we need, and I urge the residents of Precinct 7 to support her with your vote.
