Granite School District Fails a Parent
As I am walking in Granite School District Precinct 7, I am talking to many parents. One such parent told me of her problems she had with the district. Her child is autistic. He did not ”fit” the mold, meaning he was not an A,B, or C student. He did not fit in anywhere. No one would help her. She finally had to take control of the situation. She began to home school her son. Granite School District failed her and more importantly her child! This is so wrong!
Granite School District has so many resources! Why couldn’t they help this mom? Remember when this district moved into an old hospital building? If you have enough resources and staff to fill a hospital then why couldn’t they help her? If there is a will, there is a way! Sometimes you have to go above and beyond to help a parent. Here is yet another example of the Granite School Board not listening. If the school board doesn’t want to get yelled at then perhaps they need to do a better job of listening. If I had been on the board when this mom came in and was told there are no resources within Granite School District, then I would have reached out to other districts and even the state school board to find her help. I know I don’t have all the answers. When you don’t have all the answers, you don’t stop asking questions until the problem is solved. That is the educators job. It shouldn’t be the parent’s job.
